Southern Discomfort
Joelanta is one of the biggest, if not THE biggest events of the year for collectors and customizers of 1/6th scale action figures, including GI Joe, Action Man, Max Steel and others. The next convention will be held in March of 2016 in, of course, Atlanta, Georgia. A while back, I decided to do a little salute to the convention, and having grown up in the south myself, had to throw in a little southern reference. (Back in the 60s, before widespread control efforts took hold, Kudzu vine was truly a Syfy channel movie in the making. I watched it swallow power lines, cars, houses — anything that would stand still long enough for it to grow, and in this case “long” meant “not very long, KEEP WALKING!) You’ll also note there are several genuine GI Joes of various eras serving as background characters. And that figure in gray, with the beard, glasses, and ponytail, bending over the vendor’s table? Thats an action figure I call “mini-me,” for obvious reasons, even though I’ve never actually been able to attend a Joelanta.\
